Hiking with kids: The struggle is real

Hiking is as much a part of life here in Switzerland as breathing. Everyone does it. Everyone. Whether you’re 2 or 92, everyone hikes. And why wouldn’t you? It’s one of the most beautiful countries in the world! But American kids aren’t always in the mood to hike. After all, we come from a country where people use cars to get everywhere. So getting my kids to love hiking has been a challenge. But we are up to the challenge! Throughout our time here, we are trying to get them out and hiking as much as possible. Some days are beautiful and blue skied, and some days are grey and cold. Doesn’t matter. We can’t let this opportunity slip by. We’re hiking.

Marveling at the mighty Rhine. This was a grey day hike, but we made the most of it.
This particular hike was 6 miles, and that distance was hard on Juliana’s little legs. To motivate her near the end, we used gummi bears as a secret weapon!

Cheeeeeeeeese
So many farms.
Everyone needed a drink, including Penny!

We have been hiking since we moved here, and we plan to continue throughout our time living in Switzerland, and perhaps, beyond. Illinois might not be quite as interesting, though…
